Events

Our annual calendar, known as the Trestle Board, is set at the beginning of every masonic year. Regular meetings pause during the months of June, July and August to accommodate summer holidays.

Types of events

Learn about the different types of events we host, as well as other offerings within our District and beyond.

Regular and emergent meetings

Bytown Lodge meets at the Westboro Masonic Temple at 430 Churchill Avenue in Ottawa.

Regular meetings

Regular meetings take place every third Thursday of the month from September to May, with the exception of December, when the Lodge meets instead on the second Thursday.

Emergent meetings

Emergent meetings are only scheduled for a specific purpose. These take place the first Thursday of the month from September to May as needed, and can possibly be scheduled during summer months if deemed necessary by the membership.

Committee of General Purpose meetings

Committee of General Purpose (CGP) meetings take place the second Thursday of each month from September to May, and are exclusive to Bytown Lodge members only. These meetings are used to discuss the general business of the lodge, receive reports from lodge committees, and plan and confirm the details for the following week’s regular meeting.

Signature events

Our Lodge hosts four signature events throughout the masonic year—one per quarter: a Fall Banquet in October, a Robbie Burns Night dinner in January, a Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser in April, and the Bytown Family BBQ in July.

Bytown Fall Banquet

Every Fall, Bytown brings together its members, friends and family to kick off the new masonic year with an upscale, formal evening. The theme for this event changes year-to-year, in the past having been an opportunity to celebrate milestones like Canada’s 150th anniversary, and Bytown Lodge’s 50th anniversary.

Robbie Burns Night

This event commemorates the life of Robbie Burns, the eminent Scotsman, poet, and freemason. It is a festive evening that reflects on Burns’ social impact in his time, and the relevance his ideas still hold today, and includes lively speeches, kilts, and a traditional Robbie Burns dinner of roast beef, potatoes, carrots and turnips, and haggis.

Cal Bellamy Memorial Chili Cook-Off

This event is a fundraiser for the Ottawa District 2 charity, where contestants enter their best pot of chili and compete for the champion’s title in three categories. The Chili Cook-Off is held in memory of V.W.Bro. Cal Bellamy—a charter member of Bytown Lodge and a founding force behind many of Bytown’s current events and traditions.

Bytown Family BBQ

This outdoor summertime event is an opportunity for Bytown Lodge members, their families, and potential lodge candidates to get together and catch up informally, outside of the lodge setting.

Social nights and outings

Our lodge hosts several ad hoc social events throughout the year, including pub nights, pot lucks, BBQs, etc. These events are an opportunity for members and prospective members alike to get together and socialize in a casual setting.
