Message from the East — June 2026

The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”
— Bro. Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain)

Brethren,

Congratulations to the officers of Bytown Lodge on their election to their new chairs for the 2026–2027 Masonic year.

A great deal of thanks is also due to the installation team, our visitors, and all others who attended the installation ceremony and festive board. That strong attendance reflects the deep bonds that unite us as a lodge and as an active participant within our district.

One thing I noticed in our photographs is that everyone is smiling. That says a great deal about our lodge and the fellowship we cultivate.

We are fortunate to have a rich calendar of events resulting from careful planning and coordination among committee chairmen, the officers, and the brethren of the lodge.

During the 2026–2027 Masonic year, we will be adding an additional social event, introducing a new mentoring program led by IPM Orazietti, presenting engaging topics for Masonic education, and encouraging visitation to other lodges.

Above all, the most important element is enjoyment — whether through fellowship at a social event, learning new skills, or developing ourselves through our Masonic journey.

We have an exceptional degree team. Our ritual work is polished, and we continually strive to uphold the highest personal standards. We are also fortunate to have candidates and initiates who embody the core Masonic values to which we aspire and who are enthusiastic about becoming part of Bytown Lodge.

In short, our lodge excels in many areas that other lodges sometimes find challenging to achieve.

It is the history of this lodge, the character of the people it attracts, and the vision of those who came before me that make us not only the Friendly Lodge, but also a proud example of Masonic excellence.

I look forward to continuing our Masonic journey together, seeing familiar faces, meeting prospective candidates, and spreading the cement of brotherly love that unites us as a sacred band of friends and brothers seeking self-improvement through Masonry.

We will know we are succeeding as long as we continue to see those smiles in our photographs.

Sincerely and fraternally,

W. Bro. Howard Schwartz
Worshipful Master
